The Question I am Often Asked, “What is a Toastmaster?”
Richard Birtchnell is a professional Toastmaster, also referred as Master of Ceremonies, MC or Compere, based in London UK and he created a video to answer your question “What is a Toastmaster?”
In the below video he talks about what a Toastmaster is, what he does and what benefits there are to engage one at a social or corporate event.
What Does a Toastmaster Do?
Examples of the type of events a Toastmaster, attends are weddings, a fundraising dinner, a product launch, City of London banquets, diplomatic receptions or award ceremonies in the presence of Royalty.
The Toastmaster, also known as a Master of Ceremonies, MC and Compere, acts as a Stage Manager and Timekeeper. He will ensure the event runs to an agreed plan and to time.
Toastmaster’s Duties
At the start of formal banquets, an MC will announce arriving guests to the host by way of a receiving line. He will call guests to be seated, announce Grace, introduce the speeches and toasts, and generally act as Coordinator with the banqueting staff, entertainers, photographers and technical crew.
The Toastmaster has been trained and examined by his peers in his knowledge and ability and will advise on Protocol, Etiquette and banqueting traditions and his qualified advice can be relied upon to be expert.
The Benefit of Hiring a Toastmaster or Master of Ceremonies For Your Event
The main benefit of engaging a Toastmaster with his elegant uniform and authoritative voice is, for the host, peace of mind and the ability to relax and enjoy every moment of the event knowing its running is in the safest of hands.
As Toastmaster, Richard Birtchnell is as comfortable acting for the Lord Mayor at Mansion House, or in Guildhall or for a Livery company in the City of London as he is for royalty at a State banquet in a palace, to performing as Master of Ceremonies at a West End hotel for a Ball, or welcoming guests to a wedding at a country house hotel.
At many types of wedding, he would be respectful of – and competent with – supervising arrangements determined by different religions and cultures, for example Chinese, Greek, Persian, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and Muslim.
